Horticultural Show – Sat. 26th August

Show Report

Eltham College – 2:30 – 4:30

Mottingham Horticultural Autumn Show

Mottingham Horticultural Society, in conjunction with Mottingham Floral Arrangement Society, held its 60th Autumn Show on Saturday, 26th August at the beautiful location of Eltham College.  Visitors were welcomed by the Mottingham Concert Band who played a summer selection including the Floral Dance, Summertime and The Archers theme tune.  There were many exhibitors in adult and junior classes and the hall was bursting with colour.  The show was very well attended by local residents who enjoyed looking at the exhibits, taking refreshments, winning on the Tombola and listening to the band.  All in all, it was a lovely afternoon and wonderful to see local organisations joining together to hold such an event. We are again grateful to LiDL who provided the judges’ lunch. (Marian Lee)

Dorset Road Infants’ School Site

The school has formally merged with Castlecombe and  become Elmstead Wood School.

Dorset Road Infants’ School site is currently now on sale on the open market by Bromley Council with benefits going to the Spring Partnership Trust.

It is likely that proceeds from the site will be properly invested at Castlecombe, and we are hoping/expecting to have a significant input to any planned development of the site.

The AEDs have been replaced by insurance, and the cabinets have been fitted with code locks. If needed, the London Ambulance Service will reveal the code to callers.

The first is installed outside the library, and the second is now installed outside Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic church hall.

Maryfield Hall – Leysdown Road

The third is installed at the changing rooms on Foxes Field.

If you would like to see what is involved in using a defibrillator, there is a 9½ minute training and information video available.

Live training sessions are available at the Library. Phone 020 8857 5406 for details and booking.

About the Association

The Mottingham Residents’ Association was formed in 1932 as the “Mottingham Residents and Ratepayers’ Association”; a first meeting attracting 30 residents took place in the old wooden hall at the rear of the “Prince of Wales” public house.  Here Jim Fuller, Mr Thomas Ramsbottom (“Mr Mottingham”) and Mr Reginald Pike explained their purpose, which was to improve life in the village, campaigning for street lighting and improved bus services whilst aiming to conserve the rural charm of the area.

Mottingham Residents’ Association is still a key campaigner to protect the interests of Mottingham’s Residents and promotes its activities through the “Mottingham News” magazine. Councillors for the Mottingham and Chislehurst North Ward (Bromley) and those for Mottingham, Coldharbour and New Eltham Ward (Greenwich) attend committee meetings and contribute.

Committee meetings are held every two months in the Methodist Church Hall, and the Annual General Meeting is held in April in the Main Church Hall, behind St.Andrews Church, 233 Court Road.
